The death toll rose to 112, with hundreds still missing, on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, as more than 160 active fires continued to burn across the country in Chile over the weekend. Many of the deaths were in Chile's Valparaiso region, a popular seaside city for tourists and retirees, with more than a thousand residences damaged in the blaze. On Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, the Chilean President announced a regional state of emergency and a two-day mourning period, starting Monday.
